How It Works
1. Complete your dog’s profile
The Tails.com platform is incredibly user-friendly and easy to use. Simply fill out a brief questionnaire about your pet, including information about their age, breed, weight, activity level, and any dietary restrictions they may have, and Tails.com will create a custom meal plan specifically for them. From there, you can choose to have the food delivered to your door on a regular basis, so you never have to worry about running out of food for your pet again.
My dog’s profile – About Jerry

I ordered the trial box for my dog Jerry. Jerry doesn’t have any health conditions. He is a 14-year-old English Springer Spaniel. He used to be a very active gun dog. He’s now in his senior years and enjoys short walks.
Jerry likes his food with gravy best. I decided to order a selection of everything just to see whether he will eat it or not. Terrine isn’t his favourite and I’m not sure if he’s going to eat it. I chose the standard delivery option and Jerry’s food arrived in three days. The delivery was well packaged and his name on the food packaging was a nice personal touch.
2. Tails.com create a tailor-made recipe just for your dog
Once you have answered these questions Tails.com will create a tailor-made recipe just for your dog. When you sign up Tails.com will send you free samples from time to time. You will also receive news from their nutritionists and vets. If you agree to receive these emails, of course. They have a team of vets and nutritionists who will help create your dog’s delicious special meals from natural ingredients.
Jerry needs to get most of his calories from dry food. He’s allowed one 150 g wet food per day and some treats. He seems to be happy with that. He’s a dog that loves a mixture of everything provided that the textures are right.
3. Receive your delivery

Jerry’s wet food

31 platters of wet food with enticing flavours were delivered to Jerry. This is what we received:
Tender terrine with chicken, turkey & peas
Steamed fillets with lamb, chicken & green beans in a tasty jelly
Tender pâté with chicken and rice
Fisherman’s pâté with salmon & peas
Slow-cooked stew with beef, rice & vegetables in tasty gravy
Country terrine with rabbit & carrots
Fish stew with cod, rice & carrots in tasty gravy
Shepherd’s hotpot with lamb, vegetables & rosemary in tasty gravy
Rustic terrine with lamb & turkey
Braised fillets with beef & vegetables in a tasty jelly
Rich & meaty terrine with beef, pasta & peppers
Hearty casserole with beef, pasta & carrots in tasty gravy
Farmhouse cuts with beef & tripe
Country casserole with chicken, potato & green beans in tasty gravy
That’s a good selection of food to last for a month. The flavours do sound tasty. If I was a dog I would be impressed. Jerry has now tried all the flavours. He wasn’t crazy about the terrines (as expected) but he did love the gravy and jelly foods.
However, I was a little let down by the composition of the wet foods. 59% of the recipes on Tails.com are primarily made using meat and animal derivatives. I genuinely believed that the foods from Tails.com were more natural than that; you can find out more about the ingredients here. Animal derivatives are basically leftover parts from a butchered animal that aren’t suitable for human consumption. Tails.com says they use animal derivatives because dogs don’t need to eat steak.
To be fair, most shop-bought dog foods do include animal derivatives too unless you opt for natural dog foods instead. Amazon sells a range of different natural dog foods. The NatureDiet natural dog food is a great option as it has a 92% real meat or fish content. This food is also 100% natural.
Jerry’s dry food
Jerry liked the taste of his kibble a lot. However, as with Tails.com wet foods, the real meat content is rather low, just 27%. I didn’t get to pick the dry food flavour for Jerry. He received chicken flavour. I normally buy dry foods that have a much higher meat content and fewer fillers. The AATU 80/20 is a good choice, you can buy it from Amazon. As the name suggests, the recipe has 80% meat content and the rest is fruit, vegetables, herbs and botanicals.

Jerry’s treats
The treats were very tasty if you ask Jerry. He loves them. The meat content again isn’t very high, but these are treats. The dental dailies do help to keep your dog’s teeth cleaner and healthier. They contain pumice which helps reduce the build-up of plaque and tartar.
Once you open the dental dailies your dog should consume them within 14 days. You should ensure that you reseal the bag for freshness.

4. Tell tails.com if your dog’s requirements change
Tails.com will change your dog’s unique recipe accordingly.
